Packet Radio

This information is a bit out of date, but will be updated soon. For more information on packet in Western Australia (VK6) click here.

VK6HGR packet runs 24 hours a day on a Pentium 233 system with 48Mb of RAM and a 2Gb HDD using Debian Linux. This computer is connected into the rest of the computer network via Ethernet and then on to the Internet for mail forwarding and RF/Internet gatewaying.

Station radios are an AWA RT-85 transceiver on 144.900 Mhz (VK6ANC's frequency) running into a 1/2 wave 2M base station antenna, this port has no TNC and uses the Linux soundmodem driver.

Connected to an MFJ-120B TNC (in KISS mode) with a Tiny-2 EPROM is a Philips FM-92 radio on 434.200Mhz. (also VK6BBR's frequency)

On the bbrlink port is a 70cm FM92, connected to a PK-80 TNC running 'The firmware', also in KISS mode. Through this port direct connections can be made through to Bunbury, Narrogin and Katanning.

A flash TNC driving (yet another) FM92 handles the Perth 147.575 inter-BBS forwarding.

Sometime in the future a 9600 baud link to VK6ANC on 439.100Mhz will be installed. (Maybe even an 802.11 wireless ethernet link!)

Radio power is provided by a 35W solar panel (with AC backup) charging a set of 180Ah Gel-cell batteries.

Port s1 - VK6HGR-5 is on 144.900Mhz at 1200 baud. (user frequency)
Port s2 - VK6HGR-6 is on 434.200Mhz at 1200 baud. (user frequency)
Port fwd - VK6HGR-8 is on 147.575Mhz, 1200 baud local BBS forwarding
Port bbrlink - VK6HGR-9

Digipeating and gatewaying is fully supported. Set your 'via' callsign to the callsign above that corresponds to the frequency
you want to connect through.

AX[IP|UDP] links established to: AA6HF, VE3MCH, AE6JN, VK3AVE, VK6DLX, VK7HDM, ZL2BAU, OK2PEN, ZL2TZE, VK5UJ and KD7HAH.
