The old one had one of these <a href=\"http:\/\/stason.org\/TULARC\/pc\/io-cards\/A-B\/ARNET-CORPORATION-I-O-controller-MULTIPORT.html\">Arnet Multiport<\/A> ISA serial cards in it for my packet radio modems. Full-length <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Industry_Standard_Architecture\">ISA<\/A>, full-sized UART chips, shared IRQ serial ports, <A href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/DIP_switch\">DIP switches<\/A>&#8230; In other words, all the things that make me glad personal computing moved on past the 1990s.<\/p>\n<p>This card was originally installed in a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pick_operating_system\">Pick<\/A>-based Library automation system in <strong>1993.<\/strong>. Now <em>this<\/em> is the amazing thing &#8211; this card has been operating continuously for <strong>17 years.<\/strong> Realising that made me sit and think.
